17th May - Lord Triesman Chairman of The FA has today resigned his position following a story published in a national newspaper.
17th May - League Allocations Made
The FA have today announced the allocation of clubs for all leagues to compete in season 2010/11. The Isthmian League sees some changes with the Zamaretto League Midlands champions Bury Town moving across to the Ryman Premier, where newly promoted Lowestoft Town will become their derby rivals.
Relegated from the Ryman top division at the end of last season, Ashford Town (Mx) will transfer across to the newly named Zamaretto Division 1 Central (was Midlands), whilst Division 1 South relegated club Walton Casuals stay in the division after being granted a reprieve. We therefore say goodbye to Ashford Town and wish them well in their new league, but in doing so we say hello to AFC Sudbury who have transfered across from the Zamaretto League to Ryman 1 North after a long campaign of theirs to make the move.
Most contoversially VCD Athletic have been thrown out of the league for failing to achieve the required ground grading by the due date. Although subject to an appeal by VCD, the decision means that Harlow Town are reprieved from relegation and will remain in Ryman Division 1 North. Leyton are also reprieved.
In The Premier Division Margate are reprieved from relegation to Division 1 South for the second year running die to events with clubs in other leagues.
Coming up from Step 5 into The Ryman we welcome Needham Market to Division 1 North and Faversham Town and Whitehawk to Division 1 South. There are no clubs relegated from Conference South joining the Ryman League this time out and Conference National Grays Athletic who applied to join the Ryman League in voluntary relegation have been placed lower at Step 5 instead and will now play in The Essex Senior League.
16th May - Aveley Manager Off To Pastures New & Other Management News.
Rod Stringer who guided Isthmian Premier minnows Aveley to a magnificent 3rd place finish in their debut season has accepted the appointment as manager of Conference South club Braintree Town. The move across Essex recognises Stringers achievements with low budget Aveley and he is expected to take assistant Eddie Crace and coaches Keith Rowland and Bob Riches with him to Cressing Road. Aveley meanwhile have advertisied the now vacant position at Mill Field.
Worthing have lost the services of their manager Simon Colbran just weeks after he led them to a play-off place in Division 1 South. His departure comes amid speculation of yet more budget cuts at the cash strapped club. During 2009/10 season Colbran saw supporters cash propping up a reduced budget, but that he claims it is not enough to hang on to his squad or improve upon it. Colbran insists he will be back in management soon.
Chatham Town are also looking for a new manager after the departure this week of Alex O'Brien and assistant manager Lew Watts from the Isthmian Division 1 South club. Meanwhile Maldon Town have appointed ex-Tiptree duo Bradley King and Glen Knight to take charge of team affairs at the Division 1 North club for season 2010/11.
2nd May - All Decided. Promotion & Relegation
The play-off finals were completed yesterday and the end of the Isthmian season brought tears of joy and sadness as the remaining promotion places were decided. In The Premier Division Boreham Wood hosted Kingstonian in front of over a thousand fans and it was the hosts who came out on top after second half goals from Moran and Clarke clinched their participation in the Blue Square Cionference South for season 2010/11 where they will join Isthmian Champions Dartford. Ian Allinsons team were the rank outsiders for promotion in this campaign and congratulations must go to them for a remarkjable season. For Kingstonian, they and Sutton Utd will certainly be the bookies favourites to take the championship next season. For Boreham Wood, they may need to regularly see more of the hordes of so called fans that only turn up for the big matches if they want to stand a chance of competing well in The Conference next season.
In Division 1 South it was a club in administration that clinched the final promotion slot to the Premier Division. Folkestone Invicta took a 10 point hit earlier in the campaign but still managed to end a strange season for them on a massive high as they saw off the challenge of Godalming Town 2-1 in front of nearly 600 fans. All 3 goals in the match came in a 4 minute spell midway through the first half. Vincent opened for the hosts on 19 minutes, but Godalming hit back 2 minutes later through Williams. That itself only lasted 1 minute as Austin clinched what turned out to be the winner in the 22nd minute. Invicta join division Champions Croydon Athletic in the Isthmian Premier for 2010/11.
The Division 1 North play-off final was decided off shore as Enfield Town travelled onto Canvey Island to face hosts Concord Rangers. At stake was a place alongside division Champions Lowestoft Town in the Premier Division for next season. And it was Concord who set out their stall from the off to clinch that place. Easterford fired them in front on 5 minutes and that was backed up by defender Steve Kings goal mid way through the half. Stuart Blackburne gave Town some hope when he reduced the defecit 3 minutes after the restart with a penalty but Concord battled hard and sealed a famous victory on 90 minutes when the famous Danny Heale made it 3-1.
For Enfield Town a regrouping is now necessary as they prepare for a new ground and another assault to reach the Isthmian pinnacle. For Danny Cowley and Danny Scopes Concord Rangers team congratulations are in order for a magnificent achievement and we wish them well in the Premier Division next season. Enfield Town will no doubt be the favourites for that honour at the end of the 2010/11 campaign.
Relegated Clubs
From the Premier Division, last placed Bognor Regis Town will play in Division 1 South next season having suffered successive relegations. They will be joined by Ashford Town (Mx) who finished in 20th place. Waltham Abbey lasted just one season in the Isthmian top flight and they duly return to Division 1 North after finishing in 21st place. Margate who finished in 19th may yet be spared the drop to Step 4 football as events with other clubs in other divisions and leagues may well yet see them gain their 2nd successive reprieve from releagtion from the Isthmian Premier Division. That will be decided soon.
Leaving the Isthmian for Step 5 football will be Harlow Town who finished last in Division 1 North after suffering a 10 point penalty for entering an administrative procedure during the season. Joining them most probabaly in The Essex Senior League will be Leyton. Saying goodbye to Division 1 South are Eastbourne Town who finished last and Walton Casuals.
Welcome to The Isthmian
Coming down from The Conference South into the Premier Division will be any combination of Weymouth and Weston-super-Mare. Upsetting the apple cart a little bit here are Conference National club Grays Athletic who are looking for a 2 or 3 division drop straight into the Isthmian League after they announced huge fiscal problems along with losing the tenure of their ground. For them it looks incresingly like a place in Ryman Division 1 North will have to be found.
From Step 5 leagues, the Champions who could possibly enter the Isthmian League are as follows: North Greenford Utd, Needham Market, Witham Town, Aylesbury, Whitehawk, Daventry Town, Faversham Town, Almondsbury Town. Up to 4 of the above can be accepted. The FA have been looking at restructuring the clubs line-ups in the Step 3 and 4 divisions for the Southern and Isthmian Leagues. The most pressing issue is a resoluition to the future of the East Anglian clubs. We expect some changes to which leagues some clubs will play in for 2010/11.

Sunday 25th April - Season Ends With Joy & Tears
The League season officially ended yesterday and with the 3 Isthmian Division Champions already decided it was down to sorting out the final play-off and relegation places.
Premier Division Champions Dartford travelled to already relegated Bognor and got a 2-0 win in front of Bognors crowd of the season of 868. The Rocks fans must now hope that they have hit rock bottom after a second successive drop in divisions sees them ply their football at Step 4 next season. With Dartfords fantastic Princes Park Stadium and very healthy crowds (average this season of 1,193) gives them a real chance of doing great things next season in Conference South. Congratulations to them on a magnificent season, scoring 101 goals and amassing 93 points - winning the title with a margin of 18 clear points above the second placed club Sutton Utd.
Ashford Town (Mx) needed a miracle to survive the drop from the Premier Division, but a 6-2 defeat at home to Harrow Borough yesterday condemned them to Step 4 football for their next campaign and decided what will probably be the final relegation place along with Bognor (last) and Waltham Abbey. Margate avoided the drop last season with a reprieve and it looks like they may just get that again. A 1-0 win at home to 7th placed Hastings yesterday couldn't prevent them ending the season in the last relegation spot, but events in other leagues may have handed them a lifeline to remain a Premier club for 2010/11.
Wealdstone blew their play-off aspirations after a 4-1 home defeat to troubled Carshalton, whilst Kingstonian scraped in with a 1-1 home draw to Maidstone Utd who finished 18th in the table. Boreham Wood secured their play-off place in front of nearly double their average crowd of the season of 311. Their 3-2 win over Tooting leaving them in 4th place and all credit must go to their manager Ian Allinson on a remarkable season for The Wood.
Aveley have surprised most pundits this year after flirting with relegation for some time. A massive turnaround though has seen the Essex club on a small budget and even smaller crowds finish in 3rd spot after their 2-0 win over Tonbridge Angels yesterday. The trick fior them will now be to hang on to some quality players including marksman Martin Tuohy. Sutton Utd confirmed their 2nd placed finish with a 2-0 win over Billericay in front of better than a thousand fans at Gander Green Lane and now enter the play-offs full of hope for an immediate return to Conference South.
In Division 1 South Champions Croydon Athletic made it a 7 point winning margin as they saw off Ramsgate 2-0 whilst 2nd placed Folkestone Invicta lost 1-0 at home to mid-table Corinthian-Casuals. Invicta were one time runaway leaders of the division but entered administration and took a 10 point deduction after Christmas. It is still an amazing performance from them though to finish as runners up and they now enter the play-offs from that position. Worthing finished 3rd and their 1-0 defeat of Fleet Town condemned the visitors to missing out on the play-offs by one place. That position was fiilled by Leatherhead who had a storming last third to the campaign, winning the Isthmian League Cup and going on a run of being beaten just once in their last 16 league matches to finish in 5th. Godalming Town complete the play-off line up for Division 1 South with a 4th placed finish. Walton Casuals and Eastbourne Town (last) are the divisions releagted teams and they drop to Step 5 football for 2010/11.
Division 1 North Champions Lowestoft Town made it two successive promotions and a party atmosphere at Crown Meadow yesterday. Over 1,100 fans saw them finish the campaign 15 points ahead of nearest rivals Concord Rangers after a 3-0 defeat of Tilbury. The Trawlermen achieved their goal of amassing over 100 poinst (101) and also collected an incredible 115 league goals along the way. With their large home following averaging better than 680 they stand a real chance of making an equally big impact at Step 3 next season, although it is to be resolved as to exactly which league they will be competing in! The Isthmian Fans Website firmly believes that should be in The Ryman Premier Division to send a signal to all East Anglian clubs that they are not the forgotten part of the country for their clubs to be pushed and pulled between leagues at a whim. A fair deal for the East Anglian clubs now needs to be resolved once and for all.
Concord Rangers finished as runners up with average home crowds of just 124, Wingate & Finchley in 3rd place recorded average attendance at 84 whilst East Thurrock Utd finished in 5th with an average of 135.It has to be questioned whether theses clubs could compete healthily in The Premier Division on this sort of gate money coming in week, in week out. But some may point to Redbridge and more poignently Aveley on how to compete at the higher level with such low average attendances. Enfield Town finished in 4th (average crowds of 211) and they complete the Divisions play-off line up.
Harlow Towns 10 points deduction earlier in the season and poor overall form sees them finish in last spot in the divisiion with just 15 points and along with Leyton whose Chairman was jailed in 2010 for VAT fraud will be most likely playing their football in 2010/11 season in The Essex Senior League. We wish them both well for a speedy return to the Isthmian club. Leytons attendance yesterday for their 1-1 home draw gainst Northwood was just 29.
Tuesday 20th April - Champions Division 1 South!
Croydon Athletic clinched the last championship on offer in the Isthmian League this season tonight after a 0-0 draw at title rivals Folkestone Invicta. A huge crowd of over 2,100 packed into the Buzzlines Stadium to see which team could gain the high ground in the Division 1 South title race ahead of their final fixtures on Saturday. A draw or better was Croydons aim, whilst Invicta knew that only a win would do to keep them in the championship hunt. Despite both teams giving it their all and with the home team cherred on wildly at times by the record crowd, it was the visitors who got their way by forcing a 0-0 draw, thereby lifting the championship and promotion to the Premier Division. They join Lowestoft Town from Division 1 North in doing so and also stand proudly on the division winners rostrum with Premier title winners Dartford.
Monday 19th April - New Season Dates
The Isthmian League have confirmed that the 2010/11 season will commence on Saturday 21st August 2010 and conclude on Saturday 30th April 2011.
Sunday 11th April - Two Champions Crowned!
Dartford were crowned Isthmian Premier Division Champions yesterday after their 6-2 away win at 2nd placed Kingstonian. A quick start for the visitors put them 2-0 up in 13 minutes thanks to goals from Bradbrook and Hayes. Ks pulled one back through Huckle before a Harris header restored the leaders 2 goal advantage before the break. It was mainly one way traffic in the 2nd period. Bradbrook made it 4-1 and strikes from Harris and Burns made it 6 up for Dartford. Bobby Traynor scored Ks second half response.
Lowestoft Town made it back to back promotions and championships as they romped to a 5-1 victory over Cheshunt in Division 1 North. A Crown Meadow crowd better than 1,100 strong were in jubilant mood as a goal from Jamie Godbold and a hat-trick from Gary McGee saw them steam into a 4-0 lead by half time. Joe Francis added to the tally in the second half with a consolation for Cheshunt coming from Tresadern.
Monday 5th April - Lowestoft Denied Title Glory in 90th Minute.
Lowestoft Town were denied the Division 1 North Championship on Bank Holiday Monday thanks to a Lyle Taylor goal scored 102 miles away. As Lowestoft were taking all 3 points with a 4-0 home win over Maldon Town, on Canvey Island Taylors late strike ensured a point for the Essex club that keeps the championship alive - for now. With matches running out though, The Trawlermen only need a solitary point to clinch the title and the next opportunity is at home on Saturday to Cheshunt. A bumper crowd is expected at Crown Meadow for that one to celebrate consecutive promotions for them. Concord can now only match Lowestofts current haul of 91 points. The Suffolk club also became the first in the Ryman League this season to reach the 100 goals scored mark. Ware recorded the most stunning fightback of the day though when they were losing 2-1 at Cheshunt in the 93rd minute. But 2 goals in 3 minutes from Turpin and Wade saw the points return to Hertfordshire.
Dartford in the Premier Division now have 7 matches remaining and require just 3 points to clinch the championship and a place in the Bluie Square South. Their 2-1 win at home to Canvey was enhanced by Kingstonians shock 3-1 defeat away to relegation haunted Bognor Regis. Sutton held a 14 match unbeaten run until the Easter fixtures, but came out of the Bank Holiday weekend with 2 losses as Saturdays last minute defeat to Kingstonian was compounded by a 4-1 thumping at home to lowly Cray Wanderers. Sutton saw their keeper dismissed when at 3-1, but remain 3rd now 4 points behind Ks.
At the other end of the table, Billericay rode their luck in a first half derby match at home to AFC Hornchurch. But 2 late goals secured a vital first win for caretaker manager John Mifsud as Billericay began their ascent away from the relegation zone. Hastings travelled to Maidstone looking to secure their play-off place and helped their cause in style with a 5-0 win, despite the injured absence of Ade Olorunda. Carshaltons woes continued as they saw a 2-0 lead at home to Tooting & Mitcham finally whittled away with just 5 minutes of the match remaining. The single point achieved though may yet prove crucial in the battle to avoid the drop to Division 1.
The Division 1 South title race took another turn on Monday as Worthing appeared to rule themselves out after defeat at Horsham YMCA. Title challengers and leaders Croydon Athletic won 3-0 at home and Folkestone Invicta stayed 1 point behind them after a 2-0 home victory. Invicta meet Athletic on the 20th April in what could be the title decider!
Saturday 3rd April - League Roundup
Kingstonian pulled ahead of rivals Sutton Utd thanks to a Bobby Traynor last gasper which kept all 3 points at Kingsmeadow after the 2-1 win. The home side took pole position in this fiercely contested derby after a Goodliffe own goal had given them the lead at the death of the first half. Taylor appeared to have then snatched a point for Sutton when he levelled the scores with 5 minutes to go, but you just can't keep Traynor down, especially not in front of a crowd of 946 (double the Ks highest this season). Ks are now 7 points behind Dartford who didn't play.
Boreham Wood stay 4th but move within 5 points of Sutton after collecting 3 points at Canvey who have now won just once from the last 8. Hastings move into the play-off zone and leapfrog the team they beat 2-0 today Tooting & Mitcham. Tonbridge didn't play but drop to 6th. The Premier relegation battle of the day ended with honours even at 1-1 for Bognors visit to Margate, whilst AFC Hornchurch had Elliott Styles to thank for their 3 points at home to Ashford Town when he scored in stoppage time to grab his team a 1-0 win that propels them to 7th.
In Division 1 North Concord Rangers were taking no chances on their travels by crushing Wingate & Finchley 6-1. Steve King and Danny Heale with a brace a piece and a goal a piece for Niall Taylor and Marvin Samuel. compl;eted the rout. But this was Wingates first league defeat in 2010!
Lowestoft it seems though are not to be budged from their champions elect position and finally saw off Redbridge at Crown Meadow 2-0 with both goals coming in the last half hour from Plackett & Francis. East Thurrock Utd leapfrogged Wingate into 3rd after their 3-1 win at home to Thamesmead Town with a hat-trick from Sam Higgins. Heybridge Swifts and Tilbury contrived 7 goals between them after the hosts took a 2 goal half time lead. Heybridge ran out winners by the odd goal after a Tilbury second half fight back.
The Division 1 South championship is wide open again after 3rd placed Worthing saw off top spot Croydon Athletic 2-1 at home with a brace for Brotherton. Fleet drew at home to Sittingbourne but the point wasn't enough to keep them in the play-off zone as Leatherhead won 1-0 away to make it 5 league wins on the trot and 9 without defeat.
The worst form teams in the league both won. For Walton Casuals their first 3 points since Boxing Day as they saw off Chatham away 1-0 and for troubled Division 1 North Leyton their first win since the 24th October came away at Potters Bar (1-0). Leyton look doomed to relegation, Walton Casuals leapfrog Eastbourne Town out of drop zone.
Red cards today for Waltham Forests Stanley, Ilfords Coulson and Brentwoods Luke. Despite the 10 men, Brentwood staged a comeback with a stoppage time winner from Lee to make it 3-2.
Sunday 28th March - Ricay Management Sacked!
Ryman Premier club Billericay Town have announced today the departure from New Lodge of Manager Brian Statham and assistant Barry Lakin the day after they scraped a draw in the 90th minute at home to Cray Wanderers. In a message posted on their official website the club Chairman Steve Kent wished the pair luck and thanked them for their hard work.
Statham has been a controversial figure at the Essex club this term with the releasing and re-hiring of players and the letting go of quality playmakers to rival clubs. The decision to force another club to change a Sunday fixture because of spurrious 'day of rest' reasons didn't go down well in the league community and the team seriously underperformed on the pitch leaving Billericay perilously close to the drop zone. Ultimately the fans showed some resistance to the management style of Brian Statham and the Chairman finally and most probably sadly, acted. Until the end of this season at least the clubs reserve team manager John Misfud will take charge of first team affairs.
Interestingly the team have only lost 2 of their last 10 league matches, but drew 6 of them. Dartford away was a notable 3 point scalp in that time but results have been too inconsistent and erratic with just 8 points collected from a possible 27 on offer from January 16th to February 13th leaving the New Lodge faithfull to fear a drop into Ryman 1 North. With a reasonable budget on offer to the management duo and the team pipped by the bookies as one of the favourites for a play-off place at the start of the season, the situation became untenable for the club to bear with a relegation battle on their hands instead. billerciaytownfc.co.uk
Wednesday 24th March. Tanners Win Cup!
The Championship Manager (Isthmian League) Cup headed South of the river on Wednesday night as Leatherhead lifted their first sliverware for 31 years. At a rain soaked venue of Imber Court (Met Police FC) Leatherhead representing Division 1 South met Premier Division Wealdstone and the crowd of 668 saw a match that came more to the boiling point of thrills and spills the longer it went on.
Wealdstone were down to 10 men in the 57th minute when Forbes was dismissed for a second Yellow card, just as The Stones were pressing in numbers. After that the match ebbed and flowed with both sides having ample chance to finish the job. The 90 minutes came and the final moved into Extra Time. In the second 15 minute period Gray handled a McLeod shot in the box and Leatherhead looked to be on their way to lifting the prize. But Hutchings spot kick was athletically turned away by Thomas. With no resolve to the match the dreaded penalty shoot out commenced with Thomas saving the first kick, only to be matched by the Leatherhead keeper saving from Ryan Ashe.
For Tanners Mark Simmons, Tommy Hutchings, Jon Coke and Michael Talbot all scored from their kicks. For Wealdstone, Marvin McCoy, Callum Martin and Chris O'Leary scored from theirs. At 4-3 on penalties and with both sides each having failed to score their opening efforts, It fell to Lee Chappell to even the score for the Premier Division club, but his fierce shot flew high over the bar and Leatherhead had their prize. Manager Mick Sullivan celebrated with players and fans, whilst for Stones boss Gordon Bartlett was left without the silverware along with a gruelling cup final that will have made tired legs of his play-off ambitions.
Friday 19th March - Free For All!
Aveleys Mill Field host a free for all on Saturday (20th) when they entertain high flying Boreham Wood in a crucial Premier Division encounter for both clubs. In what is becoming an annual event of charging no entrance admission for one match, this one is designed to coincide with the Leagues backing for 'Sport Relief'. Donation buckets will hopefully collect a decent contribution for charity. Aveley are looking to secure their place in the Premier Division, Boreham Wood are looking to secure a play-off position. Kick off 3pm.
Monday 15th March
The Isthmian League have announced that The 'Championship Manager' League Cup Final will be hosted at Imber Court, the ground of Metropolitain Police FC, on Wednesday 24th March with a 7.45pm kick off. The final will be Leatherhead v Wealdstone. Location map here.
Tuesday 9th March - Royals Seek Return
Windsor & Eton FC Chairman Peter Simpson has confirmed that his club would like to return to the Isthmian League for season 2010/11. Currently plying their trade in the Southern League Division 1 (South/West), the ex-Isthmians are top and flying high after their 4-0 drubbing of 3rd placed Paulton Rovers on Saturday.
If promotion comes their way at the end of the season the club sees the Isthmian as their best way forward - and who wouldn't with the Southern League Premier Divisions ridiculously burdensome geographic area! According to Simpson, he has written to both Leagues to explain the clubs wishes. The Isthmian have allegedly replied with a 'welcome with open arms letter'. The Southern League have remained silent to date.
Monday 1st March - New Ground Planned
The world's second oldest football club have announced plans to build a new stadium. Ryman Premier club Cray Wanderers have spoken to their local authority about a proposed new 10 million pound development in St Mary Cray. The ambitious project could see a spanking new 5,000 capacity stadium along with a hotel, fitness centre, sporting academy and nursery. The club have launched a cmapign to reinforce their idea called 'Back The Bid'.
Saturday 20th February - Another Points Deduction!
Division 1 South isn't fairing too well this season in the points deduction stakes! Hot on the heels of leaders Folkestone Invictas 10 point deduction for entering a CVA, play-off placed Godalming Town have also been deducted points for player irregularity. The FA decided at an appeal hearing last week to uphold a League decision to deduct 3 points from the club for fielding a suspended player in a league match on 16th September. The club have apologised to its fans on their official website, but it seems the race to promotion is thrown wide open yet again in this division.
